Ahoy, fellow adventurers!
This week’s journey was one for the books—full of excitement, unexpected challenges, and that ever-present camaraderie that makes the sailing community so special. After what felt like forever docked at the marina, I finally set sail toward Spanish Water in Curaçao. The start was smooth, almost too relaxed… until, of course, the universe decided to keep things interesting.
A Sailing Moment Cut Short
For the first time in years, my boat’s sails were up, catching the wind—freedom at last! But just one minute into this glorious moment… SNAP! The backstay gave way, nearly taking the mast down with it. Talk about a heart-stopping moment!
Luckily, the damage doesn’t seem catastrophic (fingers crossed), but it’s definitely a setback. Nevertheless I am grateful and thank God for protection.
Repairs are underway, and I’m keeping a close eye out for any hidden surprises. Sailing, right? Just when you think you’ve got everything under control, the sea humbles you.
The Beauty of the Sailing Community
While I’ve been dealing with my own boat drama, I’ve also had the chance to lend a hand to fellow sailors in need. And that’s what I love most about this life—no matter where you are, sailors look out for each other. A few days before my own mishap, I was the one needing assistance, and without hesitation, others stepped in to help. It’s a beautiful cycle of give and take, proving that even in the vastness of the ocean, no one is truly alone.
