April 2, 2025: When Osmosis Derails Dreams (But Builds Character)

The Plan That Wasn’t

This week delivered a brutal reality check. My simple “haul out, paint, and sail away” fantasy collided with the truth: my hull is a waterlogged sponge. Humidity tests revealed what my eyes couldn’t see—serious osmosis needing months of drying and repair.

New (Unwelcome) Itinerary:
1️⃣ Sand off all old antifouling (goodbye, weekend plans)
2️⃣ Let the hull breathe under Curaçao’s relentless sun
3️⃣ Master epoxy injection techniques (YouTube University, here I come)

Why I’m Doing This the Hard Way

That dream of Caribbean hopping (and beyond) isn’t negotiable. Neither is knowing my hull won’t dissolve mid-ocean. So:
🔧 Budget mode activated – This is a sweat equity project
🎓 Crash course in osmosis – Becoming fluent in “blister repair” and “gelcoat nightmares”
💔 Boat marriage counseling – Some days you sand; some days you sail

Silver Linings Playbook

☀️ Thank god for dry season – Nature’s free dehydrator
⏳ Forced delay = Time to tackle other projects (side-eyes rotting interior)
📈 Every blister fixed is one less future panic attack

Current Status:
✔️ Covered in dust, regretting life choices
✔️ Weirdly proud of my calloused hands
✔️ Still weirdly in love with this money pit

Next Up:

  • How to stay sane during boat jail

  • That one time I almost set my sander on fire
