May 7, 2025: Galley Makeovers, Window Woes, and the Countdown to Splash Day
Galley Transformation Underway
This week was all about turning my water-damaged, glue-crusted cabinets into something resembling a functional kitchen. The before-and-after is shocking:
The Horror Show I Found:
-
Peeling leather lining that rained decades-old glue chunks
-
Mystery “something” particles (best not to ask) collecting in drawers
-
Water stains that told stories of leaks past
My Fix:
✔️ Ripped out the old mess (good riddance!)
✔️ Lined everything with fresh plastic foam sheets
✔️ Sealed the deal with silicone and varnish
✔️ Painted cabinet doors crisp white for that “I meant to do this” look
The galley’s now cleaner than it’s been in years – though I’m still finding glue bits in my coffee.
The Great Panel Replacement Saga
Water damage forced me to become unexpectedly skilled at panel-making:
🔨 Custom-cut new panels for galley and head
⏳ Saloon panels on hold until deck leaks are 100% sealed
💦 Currently in a passionate battle with marine-grade sealants
Window Wars Continue
As seen in [VIDEO LINK], my current “windows” are:
🔍 More cracks than clear surfaces
☀️ Offering zero UV protection
🚮 Basically fancy garbage at this point
The Plan:
-
Upgrade to tinted plexiglass (because Caribbean sun doesn’t play)
-
Pray to the weather gods for 3 straight dry days for installation
The Neverending To-Do List
Priorities shift hourly, but the biggies are:
1️⃣ Autopilot resurrection (essential for solo sailing)
2️⃣ Final deck leak extermination
3️⃣ Last-minute provisioning
The Light at the End of the Tunnel?
With every crossed-off task, freedom gets closer. The dream of cutting dock lines and pointing ANIMA toward new horizons is what keeps me sanding, sealing, and swearing through these final boatyard days.
Coming Soon:
-
The great window replacement gamble
-
Why autopilots enjoy being temperamental
-
My “Oh god I’m actually leaving” moment
