There’s a special kind of feeling that comes when you finally leave the marina behind — when the last dock line is untied, and your boat becomes your entire world.
In this video, I set sail to test life off-grid, anchored solo and relying completely on my own systems.
Even though my time off-grid was short, it offered the perfect opportunity to see how everything worked in real conditions. Solar power, water management, anchoring setup, and all the small details that matter when you’re away from shore — this was a test. It’s one thing to plan it all at the dock, but it’s something entirely different when wind and reality start to play their part.
Of course, boat life has its own way of keeping you humble. After a few days at anchor, I had to head back to the marina for small changes, and I got the opportunity to earn a bimini for my cockpit. A few things needed attention, and as every sailor knows, the “to-do list” never really ends — it just evolves.
But that’s what makes this lifestyle so fulfilling. Every challenge is part of the journey. Each fix, each improvement, brings the boat closer to the freedom I’m chasing — the dream of sailing further, staying out longer, and living truly self-sufficiently.
This short trip reminded me why I chose this path in the first place. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. One day soon, I’ll set sail again — better prepared, stronger, and ready for the next chapter of this off-grid adventure.
