Everyday life looks a little different when your home floats on the water. In this episode, I share a glimpse of what off-grid living aboard a sailboat really feels like — a blend of simple routines, salty hands, and small adventures that make up life at anchor.

Anchored in a quiet lagoon, I start my morning with calm seas and a list of things to do. The first mission: kayak ashore to pick up some groceries and a long-awaited package that’s finally arrived after weeks of waiting. The paddle to shore is peaceful — just the sound of water against the kayak and the distant hum of island life.

Once back aboard, it’s time for a bit of boat maintenance. Hull cleaning might not sound glamorous, but it’s part of keeping the boat healthy and ready for the next passage. There’s something satisfying about working in the water, watching the ocean reflect the sky as you scrub away the reminders of past journeys and remains of the old boat name stickers.

Between chores, I take a moment to enjoy the stillness — that rare, perfect balance between work and wonder. Then, as the sun dips lower, my mind drifts toward what’s next: a new sailing adventure on the horizon, waiting just beyond the anchorage.

Living off-grid on a sailboat isn’t always easy, but it’s a life full of meaning. Each day brings its own rhythm — paddle, fix, plan, dream — and every simple task connects me a little deeper to the ocean and this life of freedom.
